Before we got to Greece, Bridget and I had 28 hours of travel time. We started in San Fran, where I had a few beers, and then jumped on a red-eye to Philly. We got in at 7:30am and had about 8 hours to kill, so we decided to go downtown Philly.
This was a quick stop, and since Philly is on the east coast, they had an easy metro to get into downtown easily. So… when in Rome… Bridget and I took the cobble-stoned path of walking through our country’s history. We were able to see Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross’ house (which was great because there was a man dressed up from the Revolutionary War who was playing his fife… or whatever they played back then), Franklin Square, Benjamin Franklin’s burial place, and original copies of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution.
We also enjoyed a bit of the east coast culture by starting our morning off with a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and donut. (Yes, the coffee here is better than a regular Starbucks.) And for lunch, I’m sure you could guess what I had. While the Philly Cheesesteak was good, it certainly didn’t live up to expectations. But, I may have not gone to the right place.
I really wanted to get into a Phillies game, but unfortunately they weren’t playing. But I feel as if I saw enough of Philly to make it on the “I’ve been there” map.
