Mont St Michelle is a castle town that was built through the centuries with a natural tide coming in to protect itself against intruders. The city was built in a prairie with the town placed on a hill in the middle. Then the sea tide old rise and cover the prairie. We had to take a bus to the outskirts of the city and then we walked our luggage in.
It was really neat to come into the city which has no auto traffic. Little shops, wax museums, and creperies filled the sides and the town after you cross the renaissance city gate. There was only one main street. Our hotel room was really small with Nixon’s crib barely fitting inside along with the bed. (I later found out that this was probably the most expensive place we stayed. I’m assuming because of the limited hotels within the castle town.) The town also included a large church, the Abbey, which we didn’t explore.
It was a rainy visit but it was neat to walk along the cobble stone paths in this medieval town. This town definitely had an interesting story behind it and I’m glad we made it one of our stops.
