With the storm now that had passed and still on our spare tire, we woke early to continue back home. We needed two more stamps to be official from Fallon and Fernley, which we obviously passed on our travels out here. And so the travels continue…

Shoe Tree
Right before Middlegate, you can find the stump of the old shoe tree. A few months ago, someone cut down the tree, no one knows who or why, but a sad moment, to say the least. The other nearby cotton woods now hold some of the “fallen” shoes. But, by looking at the original’s stump, you can imagine how large this tree must have been, with generations of shoes decorating the monument. Lisa poured out some water over the stump as a memorial.

Fallon
Bridget’s family used to own a farm out in Fallon, which was on our hit list to visit. The Weaver farm was eventually sold to Model Dairy, who then later sold it as a sub-division for homes. We stopped at a local gas station for our stamp, and then searched for the old farm house. We went down a few streets, our Garmin pointing us each way, and finally reached a dead end of a dirt street.  “There it is. My grandpa slept in that green shack right there. This place has changed A LOT since I was last here. Okay. Let’s go.”

Fernley
We quickly made it back through Fernley, but, as expected, the Chamber was closed for Memorial Day. We then ran across the street and luckily, the restaurant carried the last and final Fernley Stamp we needed. This time we also requested the “I survived” stamp as well. Storms, blown out tires,  and self-initiated pub crawls made our stamp well-earned. Until the next adventure…
