Last Saturday we returned to the scene of the crime, where Andy got lost at the RTO.
A few friends invited us to run with them in Squaw Valley instead of the usual Saturday morning run around Reno. Andy enjoyed that leg so much (even though he went the wrong direction), that we decided to join them. They failed to mention the fact that we were going to run a 3.6 mile race directly up the mountain.
Needless to say, it was tough. There was lots of running and walking involved. I was actually surprised to hear that some people were able to run the whole way. I think it took me about 50 minutes to get to the top. The winner did it in 31.
At the top of the mountain there was a little fiesta for participants where they had lots of random race snacks including, chips and salsa, bagels and peanut butter, cookies and beer.
After filling up on snacks we thought it was a good idea to run back down the mountain. This was also tough because you are holding yourself back from going to fast and your quads start to burn.
At the bottom I was exhausted, way more tired than any other running day. I was ready to kick back and take it easy yet my friends wanted to keep going. We continued to run an additional 4.5 miles for a total 11.5 miles. The next two days it was a little hard to walk and my legs were extremely sore, but I’m glad we did it. Very good training!
